Denim jeans built for export programmes
Denim is the most demanding garment category a sourcing partner can be asked to handle. A pair of jeans passes through fabric selection, pattern grading, cutting, sewing, wash processing, finishing, trim attachment and packing before it reaches a carton, and each of those stages carries its own opportunity for the finished product to drift away from the sample the buyer approved. VP Global Exim manages denim as a controlled programme rather than a single transaction, which is why importers who have previously struggled with shade variation or inconsistent leg openings tend to stay with us for repeat seasons.
We supply men's and women's denim jeans across the full commercial range: five-pocket basics, slim and skinny fits, straight and regular fits, relaxed and loose cuts, bootcut, wide-leg, mom fits, high-rise and low-rise constructions, cargo denim, jogger denim and cropped styles. Boys' and girls' ranges are produced on the same lines with age-graded blocks. Whether you are stocking a value-price supermarket programme, a mid-market fashion chain or a specialist denim label, the construction is matched to the price point rather than compromised to fit it.
Every order begins with a written specification. We convert your tech pack, sealed sample or reference garment into a production file covering fabric, wash recipe, trims, measurement chart, tolerance table, labelling and packing method. That file becomes the reference document for the factory, for our quality team and for you, so approval conversations are about facts rather than impressions. Buyers who arrive without a tech pack are not turned away; we help build the specification from a reference garment and a target landed cost.
Fabric, weight and stretch options
Fabric drives everything else about a pair of jeans, so it is where the specification conversation starts. We work with denim from 8 oz through to 14 oz and heavier on request, sourced from established Indian denim mills with consistent lot-to-lot performance. Lighter 8 oz to 9.5 oz fabrics suit summer ranges, women's fashion cuts and warm-climate markets. The 10 oz to 11.5 oz band covers the majority of mainstream men's and women's programmes. Heavier 12 oz to 14 oz constructions are specified for workwear-influenced styles, rigid selvedge-look ranges and buyers whose customers expect substantial hand feel.
Composition is chosen to match the fit. Rigid 100% cotton denim is used where a clean, traditional drape and a strong wash response are required. Comfort-stretch fabrics with two to three percent elastane give recovery for slim men's fits without behaving like jersey. Power-stretch and dual-core constructions with elastane plus a recovery filament are specified for women's skinny and high-rise ranges, where shape retention through repeated wear is the primary complaint driver at retail. We also supply cotton-polyester blends where abrasion resistance and reduced shrinkage matter more than pure cotton character.
Yarn and weave detail is documented rather than assumed. Ring-spun warp yarns produce the irregular surface and depth of colour that fashion denim depends on; open-end yarns give a flatter, more uniform face at a lower cost, which suits high-volume basic programmes. Indigo rope-dyed warps deliver the ring dyeing that makes a garment fade attractively, while sulphur-bottomed and over-dyed constructions are used for black, grey and coloured denim that must resist greying. Slub, cross-hatch, knit-look and coated fabrics are available where the range needs a point of difference.
Fabric arriving at the factory is inspected before cutting. We check shade against the approved swatch under standard lighting, verify weight and width, run shrinkage and skew tests through the intended wash recipe, and grade the roll for weaving faults using a four-point system. Rolls that fail are rejected at that stage, because a fabric problem discovered after cutting is a fabric problem the buyer eventually pays for.
Wash, finish and garment treatment
Wash is where denim earns its price, and it is the stage most often responsible for a shipment being rejected. We treat the wash recipe as a documented process with recorded chemical dosages, temperatures, cycle times, loading weights and stone or enzyme quantities, so a wash approved during sampling can be reproduced across bulk and again in a repeat order six months later. Recipes are archived against your style number rather than held in a supervisor's memory.
The standard palette covers rinse washes for a clean dark finish, stone washes for classic worn character, enzyme and cellulase washes for a softer hand with controlled surface abrasion, bleach and hypochlorite treatments for lighter shades, acid and snow washes for high-contrast fashion effects, over-dye and tint finishes for coloured casts, and coating or resin applications for structured, waxed and rigid-look garments. Vintage effects are built with whiskering, hand sanding, grinding, tacking, destruction and repair, and three-dimensional creasing set with resin and curing.
Where buyers have sustainability commitments, we route production to units with lower-impact processing capability: ozone bleaching that reduces chemical load, laser marking that replaces manual sanding and abrasive blasting, enzyme-led recipes with reduced water ratios, and effluent treatment with recycling. These options change cost and lead time, so we quote them explicitly rather than folding them into a headline price. Buyers can also request wash-liquor and effluent test reports where their own compliance programme requires evidence.
Finishing is checked against the approved wash standard on every production lot. We hold an approved wash panel and compare bulk garments against it in a light box, grading for shade, contrast, abrasion placement and hand feel. Shade bands are separated and cartons marked so a retailer receives consistent product within a delivery rather than three visibly different generations of the same style on one fixture.
Construction, trims and hardware
Construction detail is specified line by line. We document stitch type and stitches per inch for each seam, thread type and ticket number, seam allowances, bar-tack positions, rivet placement, waistband construction, belt-loop count and width, fly construction, pocket bag fabric and depth, and topstitch colour for both the primary and secondary thread. Chain-stitched inseams and hems are used where an authentic denim look is required; safety-stitched and overlocked constructions are specified where cost and durability lead.
Hardware is chosen for the destination market and the end use. Tack buttons, shank buttons and jeans buttons are supplied in nickel-free finishes where required, with antique brass, gunmetal, nickel, black oxide and custom-engraved options. Zippers are sourced from recognised branded suppliers or reliable equivalents depending on price point, in metal or nylon, with lock-slider or auto-lock heads. Rivets and burrs are matched to the button finish. Every metal component can be supplied to nickel-release and heavy-metal limits where the buyer's market requires it, with supporting test certificates.
Labelling and branding are built into the same specification. Leather, synthetic-leather, jacquard and printed patch labels, embroidered back-pocket designs, woven main labels, care and content labels, size tabs, flashers, hangtags, price tickets and security tags are all produced to your artwork. We confirm fibre content and care symbols against the destination market's labelling rules before printing, because incorrect care labelling is a customs and consumer-protection problem, not a cosmetic one.
Sizing, grading and fit control
Fit consistency is the most common reason a denim programme fails at retail even when individual garments look correct. We work from your measurement chart and tolerance table, or build one with you, and we grade patterns across the size range rather than scaling a single block up and down. Ranges run from XS to 5XL in alpha sizing, and across waist and inseam combinations in numeric sizing, including plus-size and tall grading where your customer base requires it.
Before bulk cutting, a pre-production sample is made in bulk fabric and passed through the approved wash so the measurements you sign off reflect post-wash reality rather than cut dimensions. Shrinkage allowances are calculated per fabric and per wash recipe and written into the marker. This single step removes the majority of fit complaints, because a jean cut correctly but washed without a shrinkage allowance will arrive short in the inseam and tight at the waist.
During production we measure garments at defined intervals against the tolerance table, recording waist, hip, thigh, knee, leg opening, front and back rise, inseam and outseam. Results are logged by size and by cutting lot. Where a size begins to drift, the line is corrected before the balance of the lot is sewn. Measurement reports are shared with the buyer as part of the pre-shipment package, so you can see the actual distribution rather than a pass or fail stamp.
Quality assurance and testing
Our denim quality programme runs across four checkpoints: fabric inspection before cutting, in-line inspection during sewing, end-of-line inspection after finishing, and final random inspection on packed cartons. In-line checks catch construction faults while the operation is still running; end-of-line checks catch wash and finishing faults; the final inspection verifies the packed shipment against the specification, the packing list and the carton marking.
Final inspection is carried out on an AQL 2.5 sampling plan as standard, with tighter levels available on request. Inspectors work to a written defect classification covering critical, major and minor faults so that a decision is defensible rather than subjective. Broken needles, needle-fragment detection, open seams, skipped stitches, shade mismatch, wash-effect deviation, measurement failures, incorrect labelling and packing errors are all recorded against the classification with photographic evidence.
Laboratory testing is arranged where the buyer's programme requires it, either through the factory's in-house facility or through an independent laboratory. Common tests include shrinkage after home laundering, colour fastness to washing, rubbing, water, perspiration and light, tensile and tear strength, seam slippage, pilling, dimensional stability, azo dye and restricted-substance screening, and nickel release on metal trims. Oeko-Tex Standard 100, GOTS and BCI cotton routing are available where the source fabric and unit hold current certification, and we confirm certificate validity rather than repeating a claim.
Every shipment leaves with a documented pre-shipment inspection report. It states the quantity offered, the sample size drawn, the defects found by classification, measurement results, wash comparison against the approved standard, carton and marking verification, and a clear accept or reject conclusion. Buyers who want their own third-party inspector, or their own agent present at final inspection, are welcome to book it; we coordinate access and timing.
Private label and customisation
The majority of our denim volume ships as private label, produced entirely to the buyer's brand. That covers main and care labelling, hangtags and flashers, back-pocket embroidery and patch branding, custom hardware engraving, branded pocketing print, branded polybags and cartons, and retail-ready presentation with price tickets, barcodes and security tags applied at the factory. Garments arrive ready for the shop floor rather than requiring rework in your warehouse.
Development support is part of the service. We produce fit samples, wash trials, size sets, photo samples, salesman samples and pre-production samples, with each round documented in written comments so revisions are traceable. Where you are developing a new fit, we recommend approving the block on a fit sample before investing in wash development, because a wash approved on the wrong fit has to be redone.
For buyers running their own design function, we work strictly to the supplied tech pack and raise queries in writing rather than making silent substitutions. For buyers who want the range developed for them, we propose fabric, wash and construction combinations against a target landed cost and a target market, then refine from your feedback. Both routes end in the same place: a signed specification, an approved sample and a documented wash recipe.
Packing, documentation and shipping
Denim is heavy, and packing decisions have a direct effect on freight cost and arrival condition. Garments are folded to your specification, bagged in individual polybags with the required warning text or supplied loose where a plastic-reduction policy applies, and packed into export-grade corrugated cartons in solid-size or assorted-size ratios as instructed. Carton dimensions, gross and net weights, piece counts and shipping marks are confirmed before packing begins, and we build the carton plan to use container volume efficiently. Hanging shipments and blister-pack presentations are available where the retail format requires them.
As a merchant exporter, we take responsibility for the export paperwork as a single package: commercial invoice, packing list, certificate of origin, bill of lading or airway bill, insurance where requested, inspection certificates, test reports, and any preferential-origin or market-specific certificate your customs authority requires. Where your import documentation has specific wording or legalisation requirements, tell us early and we build them into the file rather than correcting documents after the container has sailed.
Shipping is arranged FOB, CIF, CFR or on the Incoterm you prefer, by sea in FCL or LCL and by air where a launch date is at risk. Consolidation is one of our core services, so a denim order can travel in the same container as knitwear, workwear or another category entirely, which is how smaller buyers reach container economics without holding excess stock. We share the booking, the sailing schedule and the documentation set as the shipment moves, so your own planning is not waiting on an email.
Why buyers source denim through VP Global Exim
We operate as a merchant exporter, not an agent. You contract with one company, receive one invoice, and hold one accountable partner for quality, timing and paperwork. Behind that single contract sits a vetted network of denim units across India's garment clusters, which means we place your order with the factory whose machinery, wash capability and price position genuinely match your specification instead of forcing every enquiry through one plant.
That model also protects the commercial relationship. We negotiate fabric and trim on the strength of combined volume, hold the quality standard on your behalf, and absorb the coordination work of moving an order through multiple vendors. If a wash needs re-running or a lot needs re-inspection, that conversation happens between us and the factory rather than landing in your inbox as a problem to solve.
To start, send your specification, target price, quantity and destination market. If you have a reference garment, a tech pack or even photographs of the fit you want, that is enough to begin. We will confirm feasibility, quote with a lead time, and propose a sampling plan so the first order is judged on an approved sample rather than on optimism.

Denim Jeans export questions
The questions buyers ask most often before placing a first order.
What is your minimum order quantity for denim jeans?
Our standard MOQ is 500 pieces per style and colour, which reflects the fabric and wash-lot economics of denim rather than an arbitrary threshold. Buyers ordering several styles at once can often work below that per style, because the fabric and wash lots are shared. Tell us the full range you are planning and we will confirm what is workable.
Can you match a jean I already sell?
Yes. Send the reference garment and we will analyse the fabric weight and composition, reverse-engineer the pattern and grading, match the wash on a trial panel and specify equivalent trims. You will receive a counter sample to approve before bulk. Where an exact branded trim is not available to us, we propose a documented equivalent rather than substituting silently.
Do you offer sustainable or certified denim?
We route production to units with ozone bleaching, laser marking, low-water enzyme processing and effluent treatment where the buyer requires reduced-impact processing. Oeko-Tex Standard 100, GOTS and BCI cotton options are available where the source fabric and manufacturing unit hold valid certification, and we verify certificate validity before confirming the claim in writing.
How do you keep wash and shade consistent across a repeat order?
Wash recipes are documented with chemical dosages, temperatures, cycle times and loading weights, and archived against your style number. Bulk garments are compared to an approved wash panel in a light box, and shade bands are separated and marked at carton level so a retailer receives visually consistent product within each delivery.
What are your lead times for a first denim order?
Sampling typically takes two to three weeks depending on wash development. Bulk production runs 45 to 70 days from approved pre-production sample, driven mainly by wash complexity, quantity and fabric availability. Repeat orders on an archived recipe are faster. We confirm a firm date with the quotation rather than after the order is placed.
Which Incoterms and shipping options do you support?
We quote FOB, CIF and CFR as standard and can work to other Incoterms on request. Shipments move by sea in FCL or LCL, or by air where a launch date is at risk. Denim orders can be consolidated with other categories into one container, which is how smaller buyers reach container economics without over-buying stock.
